« The main objective of Savings bank is to develop and support saving and to promote country’s trade and development. It will be accordingly open to receive everyone’s money saved to breed it and will grant money at certain interest. » (Article 3, RULES OF «Prva Nikšićka štedionica (The First Nikšićka Savings Bank)»)

Prva banka Crne Gore (The First Bank of Montenegro) proceeds with the tradition of the First Nikšićka Savings Bank, the first financial institution of Montenegro founded on 06.01.1901 and also one of the first joint-stock companies in Montenegro.

At the beginning of 1914. The Savings Bank continues to run a business as the Nikšićka Credit Bank, but not for the long-term – just up until the I World War broke out.

The Nikšićka Credit bank renewed its business in 1923. and was successfully operating until the April surrender of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

By the end of the II World War the Bank continued its business within the National Bank of Yugoslavia being the central banking institution, what was characteristic for that period when the land was managed by the administration.

Upon separation between the National Bank of Yugoslavia and the Social Bookkeeping Department the Bank continues its activities as the Savings Bank, being changed in 1961. in the Communal Bank for municipalities of Nikšić, Šavnik and Plužine. In 1966. the Bank was transformed and constituted as the Nikšić Commercial Bank.

Upon the integration of all Montenegrin banks had taken place in 1967. The Investment Bank Titograd (IBT) was created, involving our Bank operating as a branch.

Upon transformation of the IBT system in 1978, the Nikšićka Osnovna Bank was formed and was so operating until 1990. when the banking sector underwent transformation as a result of which the banks were combined within one Montenegrobanka Titograd. Our Bank was the main branch of this Bank.

The Bank was separated from the Montenegrobanka system as the independent Nikšićka banka dd Nikšić, thanks to the Decision of the Bank’s Founders’ Assembly in February 1992.

Since 1995 the Bank continues to work as a joint-stock company under the name Nikšićka banka a.d. Nikšić.

Since 2007. the Bank has been operating as Prva banka Crne Gore - osnovana 1901 A.D. Podgorica.
